URGENT: What role did the Union Navy play in the Union's "Grand Strategy" ?

The answer to the question is: the Union Navy served as block the forces of the Confederates so that they would not be able to trade or receive supplies or goods from other foreign nations. The Union also wanted to capture Richmond which is the capital of Confederacy.
