The Careers had chased Katniss up the tree, but once they realized she wasn't planning on coming down they decided to camp there until she came down. Katniss had woken up before the Carrers and saw a nearby Tracker Jacker nest and took her knife from her bag and cut the nest off and it fell upon the Carrers.
