The 1848 Mexican Cession refers to the lands ceded or surrendered by Mexico at the end of the Mexican – American War to the United States. The territories became the California, Nevada , Utah and Arizona states. It was decided in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which officially ended the Mexico-U.S. war (1846–1848).
