The Xiongnu was a confederation of different tribes of nomadic people. These people inhabited the eastern Eurasian Steppe from the 3rd century BC to the 1st century AD. The Xiongnu were particularly active in what is now Mongolia. They were also active in parts of Siberia, Gansu and Xinjiang. The Xiongnu were also known as one of the Five Barbarians.
