the difference is that Biomass is the plant derived organic matter such as agricultural wastes, garbage, wood etc.It is a renewable source of energy.

Fossil fuels are the fuels obtained from the remains of dead plant and animals millions of years ago such as coal, petroleum, natural gas.These are non- renewable sources of energy.
