first, off, divide both sides by 4 to make things easier
2m^2+5m=3
minus 3 both sides
2m^2+5m-3=0
factor
hmm
experiment
(2m-3)(m+1), nope
(2m+3)(m-1), nope
(2m-1)(m+3), yep

(2m-1)(m+3)=0
set each to zero
2m-1=0
2m=1
m=1/2

m+3=0
m=-3

m=1/2 or -3
