Hale does hold some power, since he is a minister who investigates cases of witchcraft. However, he is not so powerful when compared to certain other characters inside Salem's society.
As a man, Proctor has some power in society. But, in jail and accused of witchcraft, that power diminishes greatly. Unless he confesses to the crime, Proctor little to noinfluence.
Danforth is perhaps the most powerful of the characters, for he is the one presiding the trials and deciding on other people's fates.
Along with Danforth, judge Hawthorne also holds the power to decide whether people live or die.
As a woman, Abigail's place in society is quite low. However, people choose to believe her accusations against others, which ends up giving her more power than she's ever had.
Mary and the girls hold way less power than Abigail. They are perceived as hysterical and susceptible to being influenced by others.
