What is the surface area of a 16 inch by 1 inch by 1 inch cube?

first you take the 16 and multiply by two because the opposite side by that same area then you do the same with the two 1's and so it should look something like 16 x 2 + 1 x 2 + 1 x 2 + 36 so therefore the answer is 36 inches is the surface area of the cube
