To multiply mixed fractions, you have to convert it first to improper fraction. Convert 1 3/4 to improper you'll get 7/4.
Proceed to 5/1 * 7/4
5/1 * 7/4 = 35/4
Convert the answer to lowest term, that is 8 3/4
Therefore, 5 * 1 3/4 = 8 3/4
