The first-line decongestant prescribed to hypertensive patient is nasal oxymetazoline. This decongestant shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages so nasal edema and congestion is relieve. They are sympathomimetic agents that act primarily on alpha-adrenergic receptors and beta-adrenergic receptors, which are generally the pharmacologic agents of choice for congestion associated with the common cold.
